At LMI Technologies, we advance 3D measurement with smart sensor technology. Our FactorySmart solutions improve the quality and efficiency of factory production by providing fast, accurate, and reliable inspection that helps companies around the world achieve 100% quality control.

The Challenge: Building the Bridge

As a Manufacturing Systems Designer II, you are the bridge between R&D’s vision and Production’s execution. You own the transition. You are the technical leader who takes a "black box" sensor and transforms it into a repeatable, high-yield manufacturing process.

Your Impact: The Three Buckets

Your role is dynamic, focusing on three core pillars of manufacturing excellence:

1. New Product Introduction (NPI)
  • Knowledge Transfer: Embed with R&D teams during early design phases to absorb technical knowledge and transfer it to the Manufacturing Systems team.
  • Documentation & Logistics: Translate complex R&D designs into detailed work instructions, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and manufacturing equipment requirements.
  • Cell & Fixture Design: Setup Lean manufacturing production work cells.
  • Technical Commissioning: Design, qualify, and commission production test fixtures and equipment to ensure production readiness.
2. Sustaining Engineering
  • Technical Triage: Own the triage and resolve daily production escalations and technical discrepancies where no standard "user manual" exists.
  • Lifecycle Management: Manage product lifecycles, addressing component end-of-life (EOL) and supplier quality issues.
  • Continuous Improvement: Analyze RMAs to identify Design-for-Manufacturing (DFM) and reliability improvements, closing the loop with the design team.
3. Process Improvement & Lean
  • Systemic Redesign: Lead redesign projects focused on long-term quality and cost reduction.
  • Operational Excellence: Apply Lean principles to eliminate waste, optimize production layouts, and improve data collection on equipment efficiency.
  • Change Management: Execute Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and associated engineering activities with high precision.
The Success Profile: Who You Are

We are looking for a specific mindset. Our most successful team members are "self-managed leaders" who possess:
  • Exceptional Coordination: You can articulate complex ideas to both a PhD physicist and a production assembly worker.
  • The Bravery to be Transparent: You have the confidence to admit when you don't know the answer and the tenacity to find the person who does.
  • Relentless Follow-Through: You follow the problem until it is fully resolved on the factory floor.
  • Systematic Thinking: You approach problems logically and maintain highly organized documentation and workflows.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (e.g., Physics).
  • Experience: 4–6 years of experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment.
  • Manufacturing Grit: Prior experience in contract manufacturing (EMS), test equipment, or fabrication is a major asset.
  • Technical Toolkit: Proficiency in CAD (Solidworks/Fusion 360) and PLM systems.
  • Exceptional command of the English language, with the demonstrated ability to articulate complex technical ideas clearly, lead coordination across multiple departments, and influence outcomes in high-pressure environments.
What We Offer
  • Compensation: CAD $81,579 to $106,020 Base Salary + Eligibility for Profit Sharing Program Participation (pending business performance).
  • Health Benefits: Full health care coverage (with 100% paid premiums) including dental, vision, and drugs for you and your family.
  • Work-Life Balance: We support a healthy balance with hybrid work arrangements, flextime, and generous paid time off.
  • Growth & Development: An annual Education Support Program for training and professional growth, plus annual performance reviews and Lunch & Learns.
  • Enjoy free healthy snacks and drinks, team-building budgets, tenure awards, and our official "May the 4th" (Star Wars Day) company holiday!
  • Access to an on-site fitness facility, tennis/basketball court, and company-wide wellness challenges.
  • This is an in-the-office position based out of our Burnaby, BC headquarters to support our collaborative model.
  • Please note that financial relocation assistance and immigration sponsorship are not available for this position.
  • We are recognized as a “Great Place to Work” for 10 consecutive years, spanning the 2016 through 2025 annual designations.
