We are seeking an analytical and technically mature Software Engineer III to join our core team. Collaborating in a fast-paced environment alongside dedicated researchers and engineers, you will serve as a high-visibility individual contributor with complete, end-to-end software ownership.

Typical Duties, Activities, Responsibilities
- Algorithmic Design & Validation: Formulate, implement, and validate advanced 2D and 3D computer vision pipelines from mathematical first principles.
- Transitioning Lab to Field: Port, optimize, and deploy production-quality code that interfaces with physical depth sensors, ensuring real-time control loops remain deterministic and lag-free.
- Strategic R&D Decision Making: Evaluate system architectures to intelligently determine when to leverage classical image processing workflows versus modern deep learning models to eliminate operational latencies.
- Technical Ownership & Code Quality: Champion software development best practices by leading meticulous peer code reviews, refactoring legacy components, and managing complex multi-codebase integrations.
- Hands-on Validation: Collaboratively troubleshoot and fine-tune your vision pipelines live on physical hardware and prototype configurations.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
- Spatial Mathematics: Solid foundational understanding of linear algebra, geometry, coordinate systems, and rigid-body transformations.
- 3D Perception Stack: Hands-on experience with 3D computer vision and perception algorithms, including point cloud processing, 3D registration, pose estimation, object detection, object fitting, reconstruction, and related techniques.
- 2D Image Processing: Experience with 2D image processing and computer vision methods, including image filtering, feature extraction, segmentation, object detection, image registration, and morphological operations.
- Software Development: Industry experience developing software, algorithms, or perception systems for real-world applications.
- Analytical Rigor: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and validate algorithms.
- Production Coding: Demonstrated ability to write efficient, maintainable, and production-quality software in C++ and/or Python.
- Field Commitments: Willingness to travel to customer and OEM installation sites (approximately 1 week out of 10) to perform live field validations on active machinery.
- Professional Tenure: Extensive career background comprising 5 to 10 years of focused technical expertise in 3D perception and image processing stacks.
- Advanced Degree: M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Domain Expertise: Professional background within the Logistics or Automotive industry.
- Imaging & Optics: Understanding of camera and imaging systems, including camera calibration, pinhole camera models, stereo vision, and depth sensing technologies.
- Mathematical Optimization: Background in linear and nonlinear optimization, with practical experience applying optimization techniques to computer vision, robotics, or perception problems.
- Advanced AI Evaluation: Knowledge of machine learning and deep learning techniques, including CNNs, Transformers, foundation models, multimodal learning, pre-training, fine-tuning, and model deployment, paired with the ability to evaluate the strengths and limitations of modern AI approaches.
- Hardware Acceleration: GPU programming experience (e.g., CUDA, OpenCL, or related frameworks) is a plus.
- Engineering Best Practices: Familiarity with software development best practices, including version control, testing, code reviews, and continuous integration.
- Location Priority: Candidates located in, or willing to relocate to, the Ann Arbor, Michigan area are preferred.
- Location: Fully on-site at our technology hub in the Ann Arbor/Dexter, Michigan area.
