We are looking for a Technical Instructional Developer to expand our Training Program and make LMI Technologies the thought leader in machine vision.  This role will be creating new technical course content for our existing technical training program, while bringing new ideas to expand and improve the program.  Our ideal candidate will leverage previous experience in machine vision to develop training material for LMI.  You will be reporting to the Training Program Manager and working collaboratively alongside our Training Coordinator and  Videographer to take complex concepts and turn them into clear and accessible training materials.  Sitting through ambiguous, long winded training presentations is like nails on a chalkboard to you.

The Technical Training Instructional Developer will also participate actively with LMI staff to provide training expertise in projects to address training, planning, implementation, development, delivery and other training services. You will assist the Training Program Manager to provide subject matter expertise and feedback to internal LMI SME’s regarding training needs, course content and delivery methods as well as advise on learning content for a variety of delivery methods including instructor-led classroom training, videos, eLearning, mixed media programs, virtual training and other digital instructional technologies.

  • Develop technical training courses, programs and curricula (e.g., instructor-led in-class sessions and self-directed JIT learning: e-learning, reference guides, readings, presentations, etc.), utilizing instructional design methodologies and adult education principles which meet the needs of LMI Technologies
  • Scope, plan and develop courses internationally.  Own the workflows of conducting training needs analysis, designing learning paths, authoring online courses, developing training and organizing live sessions
  • Interview Subject Matter Experts to distill New Product Integration details and create training materials for LMI staff and external partners. Training materials include presentations, instructor guides, online course authoring, video scripts, webinar outlines and more
  • Interview Subject Matter Experts to identify technical requirements of each role and plan training paths
  • Recommend and implement evolving training methods.  Introduce learning best practices, governance frameworks/operational models and learning technology to support a traditional learning environment as well as a blended learning culture
  • Provide instructional design guidance to internal stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts
  • Develop and maintain strong, customer-focused relationships with distributors, LMI staff, Subject Matter Experts and team members
  • Gather feedback from trainers and trainees.  Track and analyze learning and development metrics related to course completion and business impact
  • Find opportunities to automate processes
  • Support LMI values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity and respectful workplaces

Education and Qualifications

  • Experience in the Machine Vision industry
  • Experience creating internal and/ or external training materials
  • Knowledge of instructional design theory and implementation, including experience in needs analysis and research to improving overall job performance through identified training requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Engineering, Training & Development or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experiences
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate (using evaluation methodologies) and make recommendations to enhance or develop new training and/or programs
  • Fundamental knowledge of organizational effectiveness principles and how they relate to organizational training and development initiatives
  • Demonstrated competence using Google Suite, Jira or other collaboration tools
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with staff, all levels of management and external partners
  • A curiosity that drives creative and innovative solutions

Salary Range

$68,000 - $96,900 + Eligibility for Profit Sharing Program Participation (pending successful completion of probationary period and based on business performance)

  • This is a hybrid position based out of our Burnaby, BC headquarters. To support our collaborative model, preference will be given to local candidates that are able to work in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
