Optical Engineer II

Technology - Oulu, Finland - Full Time

We are looking for an Optical Engineer II to join our global R&D team in Oulu. You will play a vital role in the design and manufacturing of highly advanced 3D sensors, working on everything from initial imaging and illumination concepts to mass-production-ready lens solutions.

You will report to the Optics Engineering Team Lead in Finland and collaborate with a world-class team of scientists and engineers to deliver high-performance optical engines that power industrial automation globally; you will:
  • Design & Analysis: Perform detailed optical design for imaging and illumination systems, ensuring they meet rigorous performance specifications.
  • Custom Solutions: Develop lens solutions tailored for mass production, utilizing state-of-the-art optical and opto-mechanical technologies.
  • Production Readiness: Generate complete tolerance sets and develop assembly and test strategies to support prototyping and large-scale manufacturing.
  • System Integration: Apply advanced knowledge to integrate optics into complex 3D sensor systems, ensuring seamless hardware performance.
  • Collaborative Excellence: Participate in design reviews and maintain a high standard of documentation and checklist adherence to ensure project success.
Education and Qualifications
  • Academic Background: Master’s (MSc) or Doctorate (PhD) in Optical Sciences or a related technical field.
  • Software Proficiency: At least 3 years of hands-on experience in lens design using Zemax or an equivalent optical design software.
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Proven experience designing optics for mass production and a solid understanding of optical mounting and assembly practices.
  • Technical Breadth: Strong mathematical and theoretical skills with a working knowledge of 3D or optical sensor design.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written English skills for effective collaboration with our global teams.
